WAIKATO TIMES: The Eye Spies are narks, Prince Disgusting's too foul, and the Toffee Fairy isn't wholesome enough.

They are three characters from Scrapbook, a theatre performance for children about oddballs who can't make it into the traditional fairy tales.

Scrapbook is part of the Flaming Fringe festival, which opened at the Meteor on Friday night.

The play is the brainchild of Vanessa Carnevale, a diploma of theatre and voice graduate from the Universal College of Learning in Palmerston North.

She received a $500 Creative Communities grant from the Hamilton Community Arts Council to put on her play.

Along with the grant, she has begged for and borrowed materials needed to create the costumes and set.
